Agricultural Apprentice Diary
Hello, my name is Adrianna Merrey and I am 16 years old. I wanted to do an Agriculture Apprenticeship because I have enjoyed working outside practically all my life. I started wanting to do this apprenticeship 2 years before I left school because it is a great opportunity to be able to achieve something that you are able to learn almost by yourself but also with a little bit of help here and there. I enjoy jobs that are hands on and you can get a bit mucky whilst doing it, because then it adds a bit of fun to what you’re attempting to do. I have spent most of my life on a farm helping out with odd jobs and I enjoy helping when shearing is happening because there are people there who are able to teach so many things that you would have never learn by yourself. Over the years that I have spent at camp I have learnt to Rousy, lamb mark (even putting sheep ear tags in), it has even been able to help me become better at driving, I have even learnt how to gut (which at first was yuck but then its not so bad when you get into it) and pluck geese! With this apprenticeship I am able to learn a great deal also I can gain the opportunity to go away to train and become qualified in the certain section I want to study. This apprenticeship is going to open a lot of doors when I have completed it, by giving me the chance to travel around the world and possibly work in a variety of different places with qualification. I would have to say that if anyone ever got the opportunity to do what I am doing to take it and not regret it because it helps influence more people to get back into the Falkland ways!
