Gordon Lennie Senior Laboratory Technician I come from Edinburgh in Scotland. My first job was with the Edinburgh School of Agriculture where I was employed as an Assistant Scientific Officer. I studied part-time at Napier College to obtain my HNC in Chemistry. My first experience of working overseas came in 1983 when I applied for the post as Laboratory Technician with the Overseas Development Agency who had a project based on the Falkland Islands. My main priority was to get the agronomy laboratory set-up and running after the 1982 Falkland’s war. I returned to Scotland in 1987 to continue working with the Scottish Agricultural Colleges. During the early 1990’s I moved back to the Falkland Islands to look for employment and eventually took up the post as Senior Laboratory Technician with the Department of Agriculture. The laboratory carries out a wide range of analyses on soil/plant and wool samples. Our wool testing laboratory is an accredited member of Interwoollabs (International Association of wool textile laboratories) . The laboratory also supports the Veterinary Department, by preparing blood/tissue & fish samples for clinical /bacteriological testing locally and for dispatch to overseas laboratories. |
