Katrina Stephenson

Office Manager

I joined the Department of Minerals on the 23rd January 2006 after spending 10 years at the Infant / Junior School as Secretary. I got the job as Personal Assistant to the Director of Minerals & Agriculture, Phyl Rendell and I worked alongside Glynis King who was the Director’s PA for Agriculture. The Minerals Department of 4 staff was a very different scene from previously working with 23 staff and around 180 children.

In December 2008 my role changed due to Glynis taking promotion and moving to the Post Office to work as Deputy Postmaster. Our two posts were combined and I became Office Manager / PA for both the Department of Minerals & Agriculture. I thoroughly enjoyed this role and was very settled until the review of government in 2009 when it was decided that as of the 1st October 2009 the Dept of Agriculture would come under the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Minerals would go solo. This meant that there was a hard decision to make as to who stayed with Minerals and who moved to Agriculture. After much deliberation it was decided that the Admin Officer Natalie Lloyd would stay with Minerals and I would make the move to Agriculture.

I have now settled into my new surroundings and office which is the first point of contact on your arrival to the Department of Agriculture. My role is to be front of house, process all payments as quickly as possible especially the Labour Scheme and Farm Improvement Programme, invoicing, issuing of burning permits & import permits for dairy and plant products, payroll, inducting new staff that join the department, assisting the Heads of Service Mac McArthur and Steve Pointing in budgeting and the usual duties of a Office Manager like dealing with appointments, answering the phone, filing, typing etc.

I am thoroughly looking forward to working as part of the team at the Agriculture Department and dealing with the farming community. I hope that I can help in any way that I can.
