Sarah Bowles
Practice Manager /
Veterinary Nurse
I joined the Department of Agriculture in
April 1998 as an agricultural assistant, however it was the Veterinary section
of Department which interested me most and where I tended to spent most of my
time (to the disgust of those requiring help at the Agricultural end of the
building…).
After several years regularly assisting in the clinic, the post of Veterinary
Services Officer became vacant – I applied for the post and was successful and
have been working here ever since.
My role includes the day-to-day running of the Veterinary Section – I am the
first point of contact the public has with the Veterinary Service and perform
all clerical duties, monitor our drug quantities & order replacement stocks,
assist the Veterinary Officers in the surgery, and spend vast quantities of my
time preparing pages of EU export certificates for fishery product being sold to
different parts of the world! I also provide advice to clients on a number of
subjects, but mainly regarding the importation and exportation of animals from
and to the United Kingdom, Australia & New Zealand and prepare the subsequent
import and export licences required.
I thoroughly enjoy the various aspects of my job, especially the contact with
members of the public & assisting with the treatment of animals.
