Agricultural Assistant

Before starting with the Department of Agriculture in late November 2010 I was a complete ‘townie’ and knew very little about the world of Agriculture. I previously worked at the Human Resources Department as a Clerk - quiet a big change!

Since then I have been up to allsorts including lamb marking, cattle and sheep tagging, downloading the data off the weather stations at Blue Beach and Elephant Beach, coring - with the machine and I have even attempted hand coring, wool carrying during the shearing at Saladero and preparing for the annual Ram Sale.

Some of my office duties include;

• The weekly AWEX Market Update reports

• The editing the monthly Wool Press publication

• Collecting the monthly rainfall totals

• Assisting with core and mid-side sampling paperwork

• Imputing cattle on to the Cattle Register Database

• Dealing with the annual Farming Statistics
