Agricultural Assistant

I have worked for the Department of Agriculture for 9 years as an Agricultural Assistant.

My duties have included:

• Assistance in the setting up and monitoring of shelterbelt trials at various locations

• Making sure vehicles are serviced and road worthy

• Maintaining Stanley Common fencing

• Movement of livestock whenever necessary

• Assisting the Pasture Agronomist Andrew Pollard, and other colleagues whenever possible

In 2000 I received the opportunity of 6 weeks training in Alaska. The training involved the handling of reindeer. I was then part of the team that brought the reindeer herd from South Georgia to the Falklands. Since then I have worked with the vets and John Hobman in monitoring these animals.
